For years there was exactly one genuinely leaked source of GTA 6 in-game footage, and it is now old:
- The September 2022 development-build footage Leak, real but obsolete. After a security breach, a large batch of early development clips spread online. The footage is real, but it is from an unfinished, pre-release build. It does not represent how GTA 6 will look or play at launch.
Take-Two issued takedowns and the situation was widely reported, so the authenticity of those specific 2022 clips is not really in dispute. What is a mistake is treating them as "what GTA 6 looks like." They are a snapshot of a years-old build, nothing more.
The August 2026 leak
Updated 23 August 2026. The section above was written when September 2022 was the only leak worth naming. That stopped being true on 18 August 2026, when clips of alleged Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay appeared under the name CYBERLEEK, together with an image presented as the full map of Leonida. More material followed over the days after.
Why this one does not go straight in the "assume fake" pile. Take-Two issued DMCA takedown notices against videos carrying the leaked gameplay. That is the same signal that settled the 2022 clips: a publisher does not usually file takedowns over footage of its own game that somebody fabricated. What Rockstar has said about it. Nothing. No statement on the clips, no statement on the map image. Every mechanic people are pulling out of these videos is a fan reading of a few seconds of footage. Unverified

Everything newer: unverified by default
Since 2022, a steady stream of "fresh leaks" has appeared. Treat all of it as unverified unless and until Rockstar confirms it:

Some of these may even turn out to be true. That does not make them confirmed now. "Plausible" and "confirmed" are different words, and this site only treats Rockstar's word as confirmation.
How to spot a fake "leaked gameplay" video
The fakes follow patterns. Once you see them, you cannot unsee them:
- Modded GTA 5. The most common fake is GTA 5 with a Vice City filter and tweaked cars. If the UI looks like GTA 5, it is GTA 5.
- Upscaled trailer footage with a fake HUD pasted on top to imply gameplay.
- Unreal Engine fan concepts rendered to look like a leak, sometimes genuinely impressive, never official.
- AI-generated clips with the tell-tale warping, smeared text and physics that do not hold up frame to frame.
- The title does the lying. "LEAKED GAMEPLAY (REAL)" in all caps, on a channel with no track record, is the signature of clout-bait.
