GTA 6 takes the series back to Vice City, but bigger: the city now sits inside an entire state called Leonida, Rockstar's modern take on Miami and Florida. This explainer is built strictly from what the official trailers actually show, the city, the coast, the Keys, the wetlands and the rural interior, and from the locations Rockstar has put names to on screen. Where fans extrapolate a full map from a few signs, we say so.
For the footage itself, watch both official trailers in the Trailer Vault on the homepage, then use the trailer breakdown for the frame-level location cues.

The confirmed setting
The load-bearing facts, all from Rockstar's own material:
- Vice City returns Confirmed, the series' Miami analogue, last a main setting back in the GTA 3 era.
- The state of Leonida Confirmed, the wider Florida-inspired state that contains Vice City and much more.
- Two protagonists, Lucia and Jason Confirmed, who move through this world together and apart.
GTA 6, Vice City and Leonida are place and product names, so they stay exactly as Rockstar writes them.
Vice City itself
The trailers spend serious time in the city. What is on screen: the art-deco strip and its neon nightlife, a dense downtown with real skyline scale, beachfront hotels and crowded sand, and constant social-media-era texture, phones, livestreams, viral clips. This is Miami filtered through Rockstar's satire: glamour and grime in the same block. The city reads as a living place rather than a backdrop.
Beyond the city: the rest of Leonida
The second trailer's big reveal was that Leonida is far more than Vice City. On screen, the state includes:
- The Keys, turquoise water, causeways and island-town bars, where Jason spends much of his screen time.
- The wetlands and Everglades, airboats, stilt-house towns and dense swamp.
- Rural inland towns, main streets, biker culture and roadside Americana.
- Open countryside, farmland, pylons and crop-dusters at golden hour.
This breadth, dense city to empty marsh, is the clearest signal that Leonida is a full state, not just a city map.

Named locations vs fan map-building
Several signs in the trailers name specific places within Leonida, Port Gellhorn appears in roadside Americana shots, for instance, and where Rockstar puts a name in frame we treat that place as real. What we do not do is treat a fan-assembled "full Leonida map" as confirmed. Stitching every sign into a complete geography, with sizes and borders, is community map-building Fan map-building, unverified, however impressive it looks. The named locations are real; the comprehensive map is interpretation.
Map size and the interactive map
People immediately ask how big Leonida is versus other GTA maps. Rockstar has not published a square-mileage figure, so any specific "X times bigger than GTA 5" number is Leak / rumour, unverified. What the trailers establish is variety and scale of biome, not a measured area.
For an actual interactive map experience, we point you to a dedicated partner map project rather than rebuilding it here. This site stays focused on the video side: trailers, breakdowns and source discipline. The map site handles the geography in depth, so the two complement rather than duplicate each other.

The Florida it is satirising
What grounds Leonida is real Florida: Miami's art-deco and nightlife, the Keys' island culture, the Everglades' airboats and wildlife (those Florida panthers are not an accident), and the small-town, roadside America between them. Rockstar's version exaggerates and satirises all of it, but the texture is recognisably real, which is exactly why the trailers feel so lived-in.
